Understanding the metabolic flows of Amare as a building and being.
The Amare building has a constant flow of matter through it. Solar energy and rainwater are collected on the roof, while geothermal heating and cooling systems operate underground. Various waste streams exit the building through the docks.
We presented the results of our research into Amare’s so-called 'metabolism' to the visitors and inhabitants of the building in the form of a tall hanging lamp installation: The Bowel of Amare. This installation represents the vertical inflows and outflows of Amare by visualizing and translating them into data flowing through a twenty-meter-long LED light string.
︎︎︎ The majority of the installation is made out of recycled and repurposed materials partially sourced from Amare waste containers.
