In 2022 I got interested in words as mean of communication.
How many words can create one sentence?
How does one word influence the mening of the whole sentence? How much menaing is in one word?
Where does one word end and a sentence start?
Test 1:
I recorded different people for 24 hours. Then I transcribed the recording, and organized all words used during the day from most to the least used. This is the records for Dominika:
Test 2: Basement escape game
In this game I asked 8 people to join me in blacked out basement space for a game. Rules go as follows:
1. This is a game that can be won.
2. You have to win to leave the basement.
3. During the game you can move however you want, and do whatever you want, but you cannot say anything beside of one word.
Each person gets different word, that together, if said in the right order they create a sentence.
I made several versions of the game. Below is a sound recording ofthe first one. Here the sentence said: We have to find five keys. There were also additional words: yes, no and you.
The keys were big cardboard cutouts hanging around the room.
we | have to | find | five | keys | yes | no | you
In this version people got a bit confused and I stopped the game after some people curled up in corners of the basement and went mute.
In next versions I made easier assigments to win, and I didn’t use additional words beside of the ones that make a sentence. I showed one verison of this game at Systems At Play Symposium in Brussels in 2023.
